Employment Law – Legislative Changes To Family Leave In Force From 6 April 2024
The Carer’s Leave Act 2023 came into force on 6 April 2024. Employees arranging or providing care for a dependent person with a long-term care need will be able to take one week’s leave every 12 months to arrange it. This is available from the start of an employment period.
The Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Act 2023 extended current redundancy protection to expectant mothers during pregnancy, and new parents will have extended protections when they return from maternity, adoption, and shared parental leave.
The Paternity Leave (Amendment) Regulations 2024 now allows fathers and partners to take paid paternity leave in two separate blocks at any time within the first year after birth, rather than within eight weeks of birth, as well as reducing the notice required.
