The Terms, They Are A-Changing
The client care and terms of business document is often neglected in firms, and getting a signed copy onto the file can be a source of worry and risk.
We have streamlined this process by creating some simple documents which are easy to create, use, understand and sign. And, of course, we keep them up-to-date and fresh.
All our matter plans now include two new documents:
Client care information contains all the tailored client care information but is as automated as possible, removing the need to customise many of the sections. Names, contact details and matter details are inserted automatically by LEAP and standard costs details are dealt with by answering a couple of quick questions. For conveyancing files, telling the client about the costs is even easier as all the figures transfer straight from the Conveyancing Details table in LEAP. There is space for bespoke information to be added, and they can be signed electronically.
Terms of business is a standard document containing information relevant for every matter and is designed to be used straight out of the box. It can be uploaded to the firm’s website, emailed or printed in the usual way. The wording complies with regulator requirements and Law Society guidance, as you would expect, and the plain English language is easy for clients to understand.
The existing precedents will remain available in matter plans for the time being before being migrated to a Library available from the Practice Management matter plan.
